Songwriters ready to support festival that supports them

Visiting and local artists alike are preparing for the Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival’s Winter Showcase, to be held at the Golden Vine Hotel, Bendigo, on Sunday, July 16.

For Melbourne-based singer-songwriter and guitarist Matt Katsis, who has played the past two festivals, the annual event in November has quickly become a highlight on his music calendar.

The Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival has quickly built a reputation for attracting high-quality national artists to the city each year – but music lovers don’t need to wait until the festival in November to catch some of them performing locally.

Bluesy double act to roll through Bendigo

The Blues Tram is set to roll again on Saturday, May, 27 with two very talented singer-songwriters on board. Hailey Calvert and Luke Watt will entertain and charm passengers on a vintage restored W Class tram as it traverses the Bendigo CBD

New Orleans comes to Bendigo

Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges will bring the contemporary sounds of New Orleans to central Victoria as part of the Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival’s main event concert on Saturday, November 5.

Described as a nomadic musician whose home is wherever his next performance is, Bridges will take up residence on the stage in MacGillivray Hall at Bendigo TAFE’s McCrae Street campus for one night only.

The Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival is set to take over the town from November 3 to 6, with hundreds of performances being staged across more than 45 of Bendigo’s finest live music venues and public spaces.

1. Why was the Lazenby Young Blues Guitarist Award created?
The award was created in memory of Phil, who was a great supporter of youth in Bendigo and a passionate muso in his younger years.

After he passed away two new Fender guitars were discovered under his bed, which have been gifted by his estate to invest back into the development of youth and music locally.
